Plaid Generator 2 Script

Script Summary:
The purpose of this script is to generate a plaid pattern from a gradient. Here's an example, using the Jasc Metallic Gold 01 gradient:
![]()
The script starts by asking the user to select a gradient to be used. This script will work with any gradient, but seems to work best on gradients with bold stripes and contrasting colors.
When the script produces the Material dialog panel:
- Click the Gradient tab.
- Select a gradient from the drop-down list.
- Choose Style: Linear.
- Choose Angle: 90.
- Choose Repeats: 3 - 7, whichever works best for you.
Note: Though most gradients work best with the Repeats set at from 3 to 7, there are some that work better with more or less repeats. When making plaids to coordinate with those generated from the original Plaid Generator script, more repeats are often needed.
In the following example, 3 repeats were used for the first plaid, generated from the original Plaid Generator. For the contrasting plaid generated from this script, 5 repeats were used:
![]()
The plaid is generated by sharpening the gradient several times, duplicating the layer, rotating it, and lowering the opacity on the duplicated layer. No seamless tiling method is employed, because the image is already seamless.
I use many of Nanson's wonderful gradients for my plaids - you can find Nanson's gradients HERE. ~ ~ Unzip into your Gradients folder.
Here's an example made from Nanson's Caramel gradient (mqc Caramel), using 7 repeats:
