This tutorial is my own creation;
however, most of the techniques used in this tutorial, I have learned from others!
Therefore, if you recognize any contribution you have made, I thank you!
And I thank you as well for respecting this as my work by not posting it,
in whole or in part,
in any other location without written permission from me!
Individuals and PSP graphics groups are invited to share my tutorials with others with TEXT LINKS ONLY.
You can e-mail me to let me know you are adding one or more of my tutorials to your list if you like -
it's always fun to know who is doing them!
Here are some pretty songbird plates you can add to all your shelves and plate racks! They make wonderful tubes, and are so practical for decorating! Hope you enjoy putting yours together! As with most of my tutorials, I continue to make the tutorial itself very brief, without the customary paths, details, and how-to's. For those veterans among you, this will be a welcome relief! And for those less familiar with PSP, I include a "Glossary" that contains all the details omitted in the tutorial! If you need a little extra help, check the Glossary section! It's on a separate page, so print it if you like, and follow along. To view the Glossary, just click on the button below - the Glossary will open in a new window.
The feedback to this method of tutorial writing continues to be extremely positive! I'd really like your opinion, either for or against - please EMAIL ME and tell me what you think! Thanks!

This tutorial assumes you have a working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro at the intermediate level (or advanced beginner level with the Glossary), and is written in and for PSP Version 7. It will probably work just as well in version 6, with a few adjustments in paths! Screen shots in this tutorial are resized - your work will be larger than this!
Supplies - For this tutorial, you will need the following:
- Jasc's Paint Shop Pro - you can get the 30-day trial version HERE.
- Dee's gold fold pattern (D_gold fold) - if you don't already have it, you can get it HERE. ~ ~ Unzip into your Patterns folder.
- Eye Candy 4000 - you can get a demo version HERE. ~ ~ Note that the demo version will allow you to preview, but not apply or save, the Bevel Boss effects used in this tutorial!
- My ss-plate Bevel Boss preset for Eye Candy 4000 - you can get it HERE. ~ ~ Unzip into your Eye Candy 4000\Eye Candy 4000 Settings\BevelBoss folder!
- Some bird images - I found mine at WEBSHOTS, in the community photos section - they have literally thousands of free photos!

OK, now we're ready to begin! Grab your mouse and let's get started!
Remember to save often!

STEP 1
Set the foreground style to pattern, and select the D_gold fold pattern, Scale = 100%, Angle = 0. Set the background style to Null.
Create a new transparent image 300 x 300 - this will give you plenty of room to work, and you can resize your plate later. Add a new raster layer, naming it "rim". Choose the Selection tool with the following settings:
Selection Type (Circle)
Feather (0)
Antialias CHECKEDStarting at coordinates (150,150), draw a circle about 286 pixels wide. Flood fill with the gold fold pattern.
Contract the selection by 4 pixels, and press the DELETE key.
Keep selected, and save your image.
STEP 2
Expand the selection by 1 pixel. Add a new raster layer, naming it "plate".
Open your bird image. Use the Selection tool - same settings as above - to make a selection from your bird image. You may need to move the selection around until you have just what you want. Copy. Returning to your plate image, paste the bird image into the selection.
Float the selection and apply a cutout with the following settings (you may want to adjust these settings, depending on your image):
Vertical offset (0)
Horizontal offset (0)
Opacity (100)
Blur (80 - 100)
Shadow color (black)Apply the Eye Candy 4000 Bevel Boss ss-plate preset provided with this tutorial.
Deselect and save your image.
STEP 3
Activate the "rim" layer. Apply an inner bevel with the following settings:
Bevel (2nd one, top row), Width (8), Smoothness (40), Depth (16), Ambience (-27),
Shininess (37), Color (white), Angle (135), Intensity (31), Elevation (88)Save your image.
And that's it - you're done! Merge the layers and tube your songbird plate - I resized my plate to 160 pixels before tubing. Using other bird images, you can make all sorts of plates with this method - other wildlife and/or flower images work well, too!
Here are some songbird plates arranged on a plate rack - you can find the tutorial for the Metal Plate Rack HERE!

Have fun with your songbird plates! Don't forget to sharpen if you resize!
